A look into the future
Schaffhauser Nachrichten 17/02/14
"The Spanish Diego Martin Etxebarria conducted the piece clearly and confidently and also facilitated the public a better insight into the complex musical processes."

The Camerata Variabile
NZZ Neue Zürcher Zeitung 17/02/14
"Thanks to the Camerata Variabile conducted by Diego Martin Etxebarria you let yourself gladly involve into Grisey's swirl."

Melancholy and joy of living
Badische Zeitung 12/07/2010
"Three Russians from the late Romantic period chose Diego Martin Etxebarria to introduce himself as the new charismatic Maestro of the Akademisches Orchester Freiburg. Born in the Basque Country, kept shooting –without using a baton- lightnings like Zeus onto the orchestra  until achieving the expected result. He is like a sculptor, whose signs melt in the air and guide 90 musicians to perform in a fervent movement. A dormant volcano, which never puts too much impulse. The fabulous musical speech  as a whole, stages climax points and then resolves in itself."

Simply beautiful
Badische Zeitung, 23/07/2010
"Diego M. Etxebarria conducted the orchestra energically, with a dynamic temperament and worked out with passion the folcloric motives, the marching themes and the gray and gloomy atmosphere of the strings in Mussorgsky’s ich coloured framework. Etxebarria shaped the scenes with a great gesture conducting with punch and intensity but kept always precise guiding the voices and helping with the entries.

Ecstatic sonority
Badische Zeitung, 04/02/11
"Especially in the last work (Nielsen: 4th Symphony), the power of the sound developed its impressive presence under Diego Martin Etxebarria’s  resolute and precise baton. The curves of tension and relaxation of this work, which flows without interruptions, were plastically built. The performance was particularly impressive at the ecstatic final section with the timpani solos relieved all their dramatic sound in a fascinating way, answered by the orchestral tuttis."

An enthusiastic farewell
Badische Zeitung, 13/02/2012
"The Akademisches Orchester Freiburg, conducted for the last 2 years by the spanish Diego Martin Etxebarria (1979), began the concert with Leonard Bernstein Ouverture to “Candide” showing a fine and beautiful sound. A passionate performance but also careful with the soft notes. The fervent gesture of the conductor fitted perfectly to the wild character of the 3rd movement from Dvorak’s 6th Symphony. He conducted energically the tuttis on the rustic bohemian rythm of the “Furiant”, with an extra impulse at the end; nevertheless, he achieved also an appropriate lyrism. [In Schumann’s Cello Concerto] the transicions between the different movements followed perfectly, especially the connection to the second movement: with a choral, dreamy and introverted character. Etxebarria worked on regaining the energy for the ritornellos."
